CPIA Designation: A Sales & Marketing Series for Every Insurance Professional

The Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) Designation is the first-of-its kind, hands-on, how-to training on sales and marketing topics and techniques. It is nationally recognized as the mark of professionalism, commitment to professional training and results, and exceptional technical knowledge.

To earn the CPIA designation, candidates are required to participate in a series of 3, one-day Seminars. Seminars are designed to enhance the ability of producers, sales support staff, and company personnel to efficiently create and distribute effective insurance programs. Participants leave with actionable ideas that can produce results immediately. Explore the current schedule of upcoming Seminars.

The CPIA Seminars have been rated very highly by insurance professionals and, in many states, participation qualifies for CE credit. The interactive format and affordable cost to attend each Seminar have made them particularly useful and popular. Heath Shearon attended the CPIA Program-hosted virtual CPIA series, and said:

"The CPIA course was a refreshing and very exciting way to earn 24 hours of CE and get to network with other sales professionals from across the country. CPIA is a course designed for the sales and marketing aspect of Insurance, and I love that it walks you through all phases of the Sale. I walked away from each one of these courses with something to implement in my business immediately."

Position for Success - CPIA 1

This seminar emphasizes the fundamental elements of effective insurance sales. Participants learn how to proactively position themselves in the marketplace by leveraging proven prospecting techniques, developing a targeted marketing plan, and mastering the process of identifying and qualifying leads. The curriculum covers goal setting, managing a productive sales pipeline, and establishing measurable benchmarks for success.

Upon completion of the three core CPIA Seminars, the CPIA Program Administrator will notify new designees.  Designees will receive confirmation of completion along with guidance for using the CPIA logo, a sample press release, a diploma order form, and more.  Diplomas are prepared and shipped to new designees on a quarterly basis.

Maintain the CPIA Designation

The Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) designation stands for professionalism, commitment to professional training and results, and technical knowledge.

To maintain the right to use the CPIA designation, designees must complete an annual update. This update requirement can be satisfied by:

  • participating in any one of the three core CPIA Seminars (CPIA 1/2/3);
  • participating in any one of the Special Topic CPIA Seminars; or,
  • maintaining CPIA Program Membership annually at the Ruby, Sapphire, or Diamond level.

Effective January 1, 2026, updates are due by the end of the designee's birth month annually.  Existing designee records are being transitioned as update due dates approach. This change was requested by CPIA Program Sponsors to align with most state CE update due date timeframes.

Periodic update due reminders are sent to designees by the CPIA Program Administrator.
